About Mi-Kis

All about Mi-Kis

It means the world to my family and myself to raise and now breed such an amazing dog breed. Mi-Ki (pronounced Mee-Kee) is a toy dog that had its start at the beginning of the 1980s. When Mi-Kis were created, it was done using a number of different dog breeds. With their distinct Papillion-like ears and their flowing feathering fur, this toy dog breed is a tiny wonder with a touch of Ewok about them. This doesn’t mean that a Mi-Ki is a mixed breed or a designer breed, though they may have been at the start. Mi-Kis are a rare breed dog and are considered a purebred dog.

Mi-Kis are already recognized by the UKC and have been since January of 2016. But for years now, the American Mi-Ki Registration Association (AMRA) has been a dedicated registry for purebred Mi-Kis. They require DNA profiling and a proven pedigree for all Mi-Kis registered through the AMRA. All of this hard work allowed them to contribute their information to Wisdom Panel and help them identify the first Mi-Ki DNA marker. (For more information on the AMRA please visit http://www.americanmi-kiregistryassociation.com.) Also, Embark now uses its own DNA marker to identify purebred Mi-kis. Below, I have an example of the Embark’s Ancestry identifying Mi-Kis as purebreds and another example from Wisdom Panel showing the sames.

It is important to note that even though Mi-Kis are purebred dogs, not all Mi-Kis look alike. There are 2 types of coats. There are smooth coats, also called smoothies, and long coats, also called rough coats. Both have their advantages. Smoothies have less grooming but have a little more shedding. Long coats have a lot of grooming needs but shed less.

Temperament

Mi Kis are quiet, calm, sweet dogs. They are easily trained and adapt to your lifestyle. As with all dogs, they should have obedience training.

Originally breed to create a calm and placid canine companion, the Mi-Ki is a blend of around 4 to 6 toy breeds. As well as being loving and affectionate, the Mi-Ki is intelligent and has a placid character all of its own.

The Mi-Ki is a charmer, and for the owner looking for a loving, loyal companion of diminutive size then the Mi-Ki is for you.
